When to Book Newborn Photographer in Frederick Maryland + Why Timing Matters
One of the most exciting parts of preparing for your baby’s arrival is planning how you’ll remember their earliest days. Newborns are tiny for such a short time — their fuzzy shoulders, curly poses, and soft little features change almost overnight. That’s why many parents choose professional newborn photos to capture this incredible stage.
But… when should you book your newborn photography session?
Here’s what expecting parents in Frederick, Maryland need to know.

Best Time for Newborn Photography in Maryland
At Jennifer Riley Photography, we aim to photograph babies when they are:
7–14 days old
This timeframe allows us to safely create those sleepy, squishy poses that everyone loves because:
Babies are typically more flexible and restful
They naturally curl into womb-like positions
They are super tiny (especially when they are in their parents arms
This window gives us the best chance for smooth transitions, gentle posing, and a sleepy, calm session.

Real Life Happens — And That’s Okay
Sometimes babies need extra time to grow, sometimes appointments get overwhelming, and sometimes life is just… life!
Whether your baby is newly born or already a few weeks old, please reach out.
Here’s the truth:
Babies 2–3+ weeks old may be more awake, so we can get adorable expressions and eye contact!
Around 2–3 weeks, baby acne can develop, but I can retouch that in almost all cases
I do my absolute best to fit in last-minute newborn sessions
I truly hate turning away babies — photographing them is one of my greatest joys!

When Should You Reserve Your Due Date?
Most parents reserve their newborn session during their:
Second trimester (around 20–28 weeks pregnant)
Here’s how my scheduling process works:
We soft-book based on your estimated due date
You notify me once baby arrives
Together, we pick a final session date within the ideal timeframe
This guarantees you a spot on my calendar, even if baby surprises us early or late!
Personalized + Stress-Free Experience
Before baby arrives, we’ll plan all of the details during a custom session consultation, including:
Studio color palette & styling choices
Props, wraps, and accessories from my curated collection
Any sentimental items you’d like to include
Family + sibling outfit guidance
Your preferred posing style (posed, or lifestyle)
On session day, everything is ready — you just show up and relax.
